Some say the following story is true. I don't know if it is, but the message & morale it ‘TEACHES’ us are
A Business Executive was ‘Deep I n Debt’ & just couldn’t see a ‘Way Out’. His creditors was ‘Closing-In’ on him, his phone wouldn’t stop ringing with Demands for Payments that he couldn’t ‘Pay Up’. One day, he went to the park & sat on the bench, wondering if Life is still ‘Worth Living’, if he should ‘Give-Up’ & declare ‘Bankruptcy’. That was when an ‘Old Man’ with a kind face walked-over to him & said, oh my, Son,
“Something is Troubling you, isn’t it?” The Business Executive ‘Deep in Despair’, told the kind old man all his troubles. I believe I can ‘Help’ you said the old man & reached his pocket & dug out a checkbook. He asked the business executive’s name, wrote a check & put it in the businessman’s hand. ‘take this money & meet me here in exactly one year from today, that is when you’ll pay it back to me. The old man turned & Vanished as quickly as he had appeared. The businessman saw in his hand a check worth $1,000,000.00 signed John D. Rockefeller, who was back then, one of the richest men in the world.
‘My problems are over’, cried the businessman in a big relief. ‘I can pay All My Debts!’ He kept telling himself that he would use the check, but instead, he put it in a safe & decided to try his financial problems on his own. Just knowing that he can always use the check anytime gave him the ‘Determination’ to work out a way to solve his finances & save his business. With renewed optimism, he renegotiated ‘Better Deals & Extended Terms of Payments’ & was able to ‘Close’ so many big deals, transactions & sales. Within a few months, he was out of debts & making money once again. Exactly one year later, he returned to the park bench with ‘Un-Cashed Check’.
At the agreed time, the old man appeared. But just as the Business Executive was about to hand back the ‘Un-Cashed’ check & share his success story, a nurse came running up & grabbed the old man, ‘I’m so Glad I caught up with him’ the nurse cried, ‘I hope he’s not been bothering you. coz he’s always escaping from the rest home & telling people that he is John D. Rockefeller’ & the nurse led the old man away.
The astonished Business Executive just stood there, stunned. All year long he’d been Wheeling & Dealing, Buying & Selling, Believing & Convinced that he has a million Dollars behind him all the while. Suddenly, he realized that it wasn’t the Money, Real or Imagined, that had turned his life around. It was his ‘New-Found’ Self-Confidence that gave him the ‘Power’ to ‘Achieve’ anything he went after.
